So — I’ll remind y’all again when it gets closer, that on Tuesday, November 22nd, there is going to be a reception featuring my toy photos at Cap City Comedy Club. Kerry Awn’s wonderful, colorful paintings will also be featured. “His cowgirls, clear blue swimming pools, and vintage motels portray a time when Austin was truly the crown jewel of Texas.” (via) I love Kerry’s stuff, I have quite a bit of it hanging on my own walls!
Austin-area tumblr people whom I have never met IRL, I would love to meet you there! Same with you, D&B listeners who still check out West Whim because you knew me from the show, I’d love to meet you, too! Free food, free wine (full bar for non-wino’s), and it’s EARLY — 6:30 p.m. The reception will be followed by the fabulous PUNCH comedy show, curated & hosted by my very funny former co-worker, Matt Bearden. I guarantee a good time will be had by all, whatever part(s) of the evening you choose to attend.
This toy photo is one of my favorites — you can’t tell that the doll’s not standing, can you? I laid the doll on its back and then digitally flipped the photo 90° right. I also used a layer of texture to make it look more like a painting. You almost think that this is a real pair of legs until your eye wanders down to the right foot, where shoe meets “skin”.
Hope to see some of you there on the 22nd!
