This is Thomas A. Edison’s only legitimate, original invention. Here he is, pictured with it:

According to Cracked, Edison is one of five famous inventors who did not actually invent what they’re famous for inventing. “Described as one of the ‘world’s most prolific inventors’ with a record-breaking 1,093 patents to his name,” Edison apparently was a thief who stole all of his ideas.
Also included in this article are Albert Einstein (didn’t invent the theory of relativity), Alexander Graham Bell (didn’t invent the telephone), Alexander Fleming (didn’t invent penicillin) & Galileo Galilee (didn’t invent the telescope).
Oh, and Einstein was a “total sex maniac.”
