Yesterday, when the director & producer of “American: The Bill Hicks Story” were in-studio, I showed one of them my flickr pics of Bill & he exclaimed, “That’s in the film!” This was before I understood the technology that they used to bring the film to life & I didn’t really believe him, but I just noticed this comment under one of my Bill photos:

“Hi Marjoree,

love these pics of Bill Hicks - we are currently making a new documentary about Bill and are in touch with Bills family, so I have sent these pics to them, they always like seeing (rare) new ones.

Can I ask you where you were when you took them, and what was going on eg. Bill did a gig there, etc.

American: The Bill Hicks Story:

The film had its North American premiere last night & will also show at the Paramount here in Austin on Monday. Incidentally, I have a friend who doesn’t have a SXSW badge & she scored some tickets for the Paramount show by simply calling the theater & purchasing them in advance.

Those funky IE-only attributes we were injecting in themes have been adjusted to be 100% valid XHTML. Same for the Submit, Ask, and Answer forms.

We also switched the Rich Text Editor to use and tags instead of s and s.

This update broke my theme. :(

I only know who Pete Doherty is because of Michael K at DListed — he chronicled Pete’s tumultuous relationship with supermodel Kate Moss & at the height of their on-again off-again relationship, MK ran items about the couple nearly every day.

In most of the photos, Pete — then, and now — look(ed)(s) like this:

But Pete BC (Before Crack) — as you can see in the video — is clean-cut, clever & cute. I’ve never watched a Babyshambles video but I have seen him croon to Kate, & even high as a kite, he’s charming.

I worry about him. I worry about Britney. I worry about Amy Winehouse. There are a lot of effed up celebrities but for whatever reason, this is my personal trifecta of celebrity worry.

I used to perm my hair because I was so lazy I didn’t ever want to have to do ANYTHING to it except add product & let it dry on its own. I don’t get perms any more but I do wear headbands a lot. I still don’t know how to properly operate a hand-held hair dryer.

Yes, I am aware this is a ridiculous & awkward pose. But I could whine with the best of them.

The full-service talent agency where I worked in the late 90s was what they refer to in The Business as a “boutique agency” — small & specialized. We only represented stand-ups when I first arrived although we quickly expanded to handle sketch comics — and one lanky, humorous contortionist/mime (who booked more jobs than anyone else on the roster) — as well.

The guy who co-founded & co-owned the agency covered half hours (sitcoms) and stand-up specials, and we had another guy who only booked personal appearances; I was responsible for commercials, films & one hours (dramas). I mentioned before we only represented comics, right? Since they’re generally not known for their strong dramatic chops & most of them felt commercials were way beneath them I totally would have starved if I’d been on commission.

Also: stand-ups are just as whiny as actors, but at least they’re funny while they’re doing it.
